The Top 6 EV's Releasing in the Near Future
The Top 6 EV’s that the Borrow Staff are Most Excited For
By: Lucas Rostler
The slow march towards electric vehicles is now a quick run and a takeover is coming very soon. In the next few years, an eclectic range of EV’s are coming to market. Whether for the utilitarian, sports car enthusiast or for the family that needs room to haul, there will soon be an EV for everyone. In the spirit of what we see as an EV takeover, we at Borrow have sorted through the EV’s set to be released over the next few years and made a short list of the six that we’re personally most excited for.
Ford F-150 Lightning (Spring 2022)
The Ford F-150 Lightning is a game changer. It looks great and functions even better. With six trims in total, from the base Pro trim to the king of the hill Platinum trim, the Lightning ranges in price from $39,974 to $89,874. There is a Lightning for everyone. From the weekend warrior to the construction worker to the truck enthusiast, they’re all sure to find a trim level that fits what they’re looking for. All Lightning’s come standard with 230 miles of range and can get up to 300 miles with an extended range option. Some of us here at Borrow have already placed a deposit.
Tesla Model S Plaid (Available Now)
Tesla’s new Model S, the Plaid, is a force to be reckoned with. This 1,020-horsepower beast can rocket up to 60 miles per hour in an astonishing 2.07 seconds and has a range of 390 miles. In addition to the Tesla’s incredible speed and range, the interior has also been completely redesigned. The infotainment screen is now in a 17-inch landscape orientation equipped with Tesla’s new infotainment software. Most noticeably, the steering wheel has been replaced by a steering yoke...you read that right, a yoke. Performance and luxury don’t come cheaply as the Model S Plaid starts at $114,490.
Ford E-Transit (Taking Orders Now)
The Ford E-Transit is unlike any other car on this list because it’s geared exclusively towards commercial use and, well, it’s a van! Think deliveries, service technicians and small businesses. The E-Transit will get 126 miles of range and at a DC fast charger, the e-Transit can add 30 miles every 10 minutes it’s plugged in. Ford had business in mind when designing this van. There is a small generator to recharge tools on a job-site and the van has a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system that comes with a 4G LTE modem so that drivers can connect to Wi-Fi to ensure there are no hiccups during a day of working with customers.
Subaru Solterra (Late 2022)
Subaru’s entrance into the EV market is coming in late 2022 with the Subaru Solterra, a classically designed but good looking Subaru SUV. Although few confirmed details are available, it is known that the Solterra is a product of a partnership between Subaru and Toyota to create a platform for EV’s. Both automakers' future EV’s are expected to use this platform. The all-wheel drive Solterra, expected to start in the low $40,000-range, is going to get at least 300 miles of range.
Volkswagen I.D. Buzz (2023)
Volkswagen’s simultaneous homage to the past and deference to the future comes in the form of the I.D. Buzz, an electric version of their iconic “Magic Bus.” The I.D. Buzz is expected to squeeze out 200 to 300-horsepower and 340 miles of range. Our personal favorite part of the I.D. buzz is the combination of eccentric color schemes that pay homage to the original Magic Bus and the futuristic curves that make the I.D. Buzz look new, while still boxy like its original sibling.
Rivian R1T & R1S (Deliveries Starting July and August)
The all-new EV startup, backed by Amazon, is releasing two sleek and futuristic cars: the R1T pickup truck and the R1S SUV. The R1T starts at $67,500 and has 300 to 400 miles of range depending on the battery pack (the extended range battery will cost $10,000 extra). The R1S starts at $70,000 and has the same range as the R1T. Both these models have adventuring in mind. With 14 inches of ground clearance, the R1T and R1S have the ability to tow 11,000 pounds, wade through 3 feet of water, and climb up seemingly impossible slopes effortlessly. If Rivian lives up to its hype, it’s clear that they will be the utilitarian vehicle that all the other EV companies will have to compete with.
