Some of the benefits of owning an EV in 2019

2019 is the year for owning an EV

There are more reasons than ever to drive an electric car in 2019. The first, and maybe most obvious of which is that you don’t have to pay for gas. This has always been a major perk of driving an EV, but at the moment gas prices are higher than they have been in a long time. As of May 2019, the average gas price in Los Angeles is over four dollars a gallon, according to GasBuddy.com. Even though gas powered cars are getting ever-more fuel efficient, owners of traditional cars are still paying a steep premium at the pump. Even filling up a small car like the Mazda 3 or Volkswagen Golf can cost upwards of $60 for a full tank in some areas of Los Angeles.

More advantages

Another advantage is there’s very little maintenance associated with electric vehicles. No internal combustion engine means there’s no oil changes to worry about, you’ll never have to replace a single spark plug or deal with the myriad of other mechanical components that can break. EVs have just one moving part, the electric motor itself, and if that fails, Borrow will take the car off your hands, give you a new one and handle fixing the broken car independently. The only wear and tear on electric cars are the brakes and tires, but you’d have to replace those on any vehicle. However, with Borrow, we take care of tires for you. If you think your tires are getting worn down, just gives us a call. We’ll take a look and if we find that the tires do need replacing, we’ll handle it free of charge.

Charging your EV away from home has never been easier. There are now nearly 2,000 charging points for EVs in Los Angeles alone. There are now parking spaces reserved specifically for electric cars where owners can charge up while shopping or grabbing a meal. These have been around Los Angeles for a while, but cities like Sacramento and Coral Gables are adding charge points and modifying their city zoning laws to make more room for EV charging stations in the future.

The last and perhaps most altruistic reason to own an EV is that they are much kinder to the environment. According to Tesla.com, Tesla’s cars have saved more than 4,113,000 tons of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere – and that’s just one automakers cars. EVs and charging stations are on the rise, emissions are on the decline and it’s never been easier to have an EV than it is today.
